Why Is The Resurrection Important?

Jesus’ resurrection from the dead is central to the Easter story but why is the resurrection so important to Christianity?

What Jesus did on the cross changed everything. Below we consider why the resurrection of Jesus Christ is important and what it means for us today.

The Resurrection Means Our Sins Are Forgiven

Jesus died so that our sins could be forgiven and we could have a relationship with God. In Ephesians 2:3-5 it says: “We are by nature worthy of indignation. But because of His great love for us, God, rich in mercy, made us live with Christ.”

God’s wrath against sin has been satisfied and we are now in a righteous position with God because Jesus “was raised to make us right” as stated. in Romans 4:25. You see, God is holy, and His justice is perfect. We know from Romans 3:23-24 that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” but now “all have been justified, but not through his grace through God.” Redemption comes from Jesus Christ.”

There are other signs and miracles recorded in the Gospels, but without the miracle of His resurrection we would still be imprisoned under the power of sin. Paul said the same thing in his first letter to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 15:17), “if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.

The great news is, Christ yes Has been raised. So death is not the end and we do There is victory over our sins.

Jesus’ Resurrection Proved He Was God

Christians don’t just believe that Jesus was a great teacher or an inspirational religious leader. We believe He is the Son of God.

Jesus said and did many things that are the foundation of our faith. But if He is not resurrected, we can reasonably question whether He is the Son of God, for the resurrection is one of the main affirmations of His ministry on earth. He has repeatedly predicted His resurrection, including in Luke 9:22, although this also appears in all the other Gospels. He also claimed to be the Son of God, at a great cost. One of the most famous examples of this is His claim to be “the way, the truth, and the life.” In John 14:6, He goes on to say, “No one can come to the Father except by me.” This bold claim, among others, can only be confirmed by His resurrection.

CS Lewis famously addressed this problem in his book Pure Christianity, saying, “a man who was merely a human being and said what Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher… This man was and is the Son of God, or if otherwise a madman or something worse… let’s not come up with any patronizing nonsense about Him being a great teacher of man. He did not leave that open to us.”

This is the beginning of a new life and a new creation

The good news of the gospel does not end with the forgiveness of sins. We also have new lives. John 3:16 says that “whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

This is our inheritance, prophesied in Daniel 12:13. This new life is not simply a repeat of what came before, but something greater. Ephesians 1:18-21 calls this our “glorious inheritance.” And this eternal life begins now. Instead of starting when we die, our victory is a life in the spirit that begins today. After all, as Jesus said in Matthew 22:32, God “is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

Romans 8:11 says, “He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.” Through the Spirit of the risen Christ, we can experience life to the fullest.

The resurrection of Jesus begins a new creation. Paul says in Romans 8:22 that “until now all things have groaned as in labor.”

We experience this stress in our daily lives. Life is full of good things and pain. God gives us so many blessings that we still experience suffering. The project is not over yet, but we know that the kingdom is coming because we have “the firstfruits of the spirit” living within us and affecting the world around us.

The body of Jesus was resurrected and so will our bodies

From the apostles’ testimonies, we know that Jesus’ resurrection was literal. He is not an apparition but is physically there in human form, even if it is slightly different (a foreshadowing of our celestial bodies).

We know this because of the physical wounds that Jesus showed His disciples in John 20:24-29. His body was also not in the grave. When the women went there on Easter morning in Luke 24:5-6, the angels said “why are you looking for the living among the dead? He’s not here; He’s risen!”

The resurrection of this physical body is good news for us. 2 Corinthians 4:14 says, “He who raised Jesus from the dead will also raise us up with Jesus.” We know from other resurrections that occur in the Gospels – Lazarus in John 11 and those coming out of the grave in Matthew 27:53 – that God can and will restore our physical life.

Our current body will die. Death is a fact. But a new world is coming where everything will be restored. Inside, this recovery has already begun. Jesus Christ made that change and foretold what life after the resurrection would be like. Our bodies, which have experienced weakness, humiliation, pain, and suffering, will perish, but will rise again incorrupt, as stated in 1 Corinthians 15:42.

Why Jesus’ Resurrection Is Good News

The resurrection really changed everything.

The revelation that Jesus was God in human form shows how wonderful God’s grace is. He willingly humbled himself to this level and made the ultimate atoning sacrifice for us.

And now, when we say yes to Jesus, we say yes to new life. New mind, new heart and one day, new body. Old things will pass away and life as it is meant to be made available, freely given by the grace of God.
