Who Does God Say I Am In The Bible?

Who does God say I am? This is one of the most important questions for us.

We are all at the center of a fierce battle. A battle for our hearts, our minds and our identities. The enemy wants us to be defined by this world, our guilt, and our shame. But God offers something else. God invites us to become new, forget our sins and shame, and become a new creation with Him.

Ask the question ‘Who does God say I am?’ could be the start of an incredible journey to find out who you were made of. In addition, learning to rely on the transformative cleansing process that Jesus put us all into becomes more like Him.

Who Does God Say I Am? He says you are his child

“Look how much the Father has loved us, that we are called children of God! And that’s what we have!” 1 John 3:1

You are a child of God. This truth is so hard to believe that we can decompress it for the rest of our lives. Everything about us needs to stem from this, one of the foundations of our faith: we are His children.

No matter what your family is, or how you were brought up, we are all equal in the kingdom of God, we are all His sons and daughters.

“For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. 1 Corinthians 3:9

Don’t let any unpleasant experience of being someone’s co-worker influence the way you think about our relationship with God as His co-worker. When Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, describing us as God’s fellow workers, he was raising our expectations. He is reminding us that we can make a meaningful contribution to the building up of God’s kingdom.

God has a role created just for you. He has work for you to do, which is crucial in seeing His plans for His people and for the planet come to fruition.

“Once you are far from God and an enemy in your mind because your bad behavior. But now he has reconciled you through the death of the body of Christ, to make you holy in his sight, blameless and blameless.” Colossians 1:21-23

Once you grasp the full impact of this verse in Colossians, it has the power to change everything about your identity. This quote from the scriptures is also a great weapon on difficult days when you think your life is a battleground.

The enemy wants to define you by your guilt and shame. But, Jesus Christ paid the price for all of our sins and shame when He died for us on the cross. That’s what Paul was referring to when he said in 1 Corinthians that we were bought with a price. We are no longer our own, we belong to God. God has made us blameless; Don’t let your mistakes or breakdowns define you when only God can.

There are two aspects to the question ‘Who does God say I am?’ First, on a macro level, how are my identity and life purpose shaped by my faith? And second, on a micro level, who am I and how is my character shaped by my faith? We will answer both in detail.

Tick ​​’Christian’ on the next form you fill out means more than you believe in heaven, or imply that you go to church on Sunday. Here’s what Paul said about it in 2 Corinthians 5:17

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, a new creation has come: The old is gone, the new is here!”

Christ has made you new. We are new creations. This alone could be studied for hours, but in short, what Paul is explaining here is that just as Jesus died, so do we. Our ‘old self’, full of sin, died with Jesus. And our ‘new man’, sanctified and blameless through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, is living to this day.

It is a complicated, seemingly contradictory thing to try to understand that we are already made perfect in Jesus and still live in a broken world. But it is true, we can live as new creations in Christ.

So the overarching truth that identifies you as God made you new. Through Christ, you are a new creation.

How does a loving God define who you are?

God cares about every part of you. He knows you and knits you together in your mother’s womb.

“For He made my deepest self; God woven you into my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13

God has fixed your day. He created your ‘deepest being’. There is a purpose for you and God has created a personality just for you.

You don’t have to separate your faith from your personality. As you pursue God, He will draw you out, transform, and refine you as you journey with Him.

There is no better person to answer the question ‘Who does God say I am?’ than God himself.

Why not start asking Him who He created you to be?

He might answer you by reminding you of a passage of Scripture – is there a character in the Bible that He would like you to study? Or, He may speak to you through the affirmation of a friend. You may hear His voice as a thought in your head or a jolt in your soul.

Remember that there is a battle over your identity but Jesus overcame them all. You are free, through His sacrifice on the cross, to live freely as a beloved child of God. Today, tomorrow and forever.
