‘Be Anxious For Nothing’ – The Bible And Anxiety

In recent years, there has been a consistent increase in the number of people struggling with some type of anxiety. Anxiety disorders are becoming increasingly common worldwide, affecting people of all ages, backgrounds and social classes. The Bible tells us to fight overwhelming anxiety, but we often feel like we are worrying about everything.

Even people of strong faith can struggle with anxiety, even sometimes on a daily basis. We may wonder how to reconcile the anxious thoughts we have with faith in a sovereign God.

In this blog post, we’ll explore a few examples of what the Bible says about anxiety. We’ll also unpack some helpful thoughts as we navigate our own battle with anxiety.

Do not worry

Do not worry about anything, but under all circumstances, present your needs to God with prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving. Philippians 4:6

You may have read or heard this sentence before. It is one of the most famous and widely quoted verses in the Bible and contains a very powerful instruction.

The command not to worry can seem a bit strange and can even be overwhelming – especially when we feel we need to worry about it. everything. But this verse is indeed a great encouragement as well as a meaningful challenge. This imperative does not tell us to dismiss the reality of anxiety. Rather, it invites us into the peace-giving, life-giving presence of our loving Heavenly Father.

God does not want us to live lives limited by fear. In fact, He desires that we be completely free from anxiety. He doesn’t want us to turn our backs on Him out of fear, but rather goes to Him with confidence, boldly asking for what we need and thanking Him for all that He is.

Even in the most anxious times, we are invited to lean on God’s goodness. By aligning ourselves with God and His promises, we can begin our journey to understand what it means to truly worry in vain.

It’s normal to feel anxious

One of the most comforting truths of the Bible is its assertion of the full emotional range of our human experience. In God’s Word, we can see that although worrying is not what God wants for us, it is a normal part of the human experience. Throughout the Bible, we find affirmations of the reality of all our emotions, even the most difficult ones.

Ecclesiastes 3:4 reminds us that every emotion has its ‘time’ and that there is a “time to weep, a time to laugh, a time to mourn, and a time to dance”.

There will be times in our lives when we feel we are on top of the world and there will be times when we feel overwhelmed by anxiety and uncertainty about the future. And, while anxiety disorders are real and challenging, feeling anxious is part of the human experience. We should not think that we are abnormal or wrong when we encounter feelings of anxiety in life.

Worrying doesn’t make you a bad Christian

Anxiety can pose special challenges for Christians. One of such challenges is how do we reconcile anxiety with our faith journey. We can often feel guilty when we experience anxiety. We may worry that something is wrong with us or that we don’t trust God enough. But God’s Word makes it clear that worry does not separate you from God. It also doesn’t make you a bad Christian.

Romans 8:38-39 says, “For I am convinced that whether death or life, angels or demons, present or future, any power, height or depth, or whatever Nothing else in all creation is able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

No event, no circumstance, no emotion can separate you from God. You are not a worse Christian if you struggle with feelings of anxiety, and God loves you no less. You are a beloved child of God, created in His image and belong to Him forever.

There’s an answer to your worries

The Bible makes it clear that it is normal to feel anxious in life. But it also promises that God has the answer to our worries.

God promises His presence to each of us, and the result of His presence is freedom and freedom from anxiety and depression. 1 John 4:18 says: “There is no fear in love. But perfect love casts out fear, for fear is associated with punishment. The one who is afraid is not perfected in love.”

God To be love and cherish. So we can trust and be sure that in His presence there is no fear, no worry, no worry and no pain.

The Bible also promises that God will have the final say. He will conquer all sin, sickness, sickness, and pain. God promises that one day He will take away all worries.

As we read in Revelation 21:4, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, mourning, weeping, or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

What a wonderful poem! What an encouraging promise. Whatever battle you are facing will, one day, be completely defeated, and you will enter an eternity without worries.
